Location

Normally, we see that a stereotypical location for a coming of age film is a school or home, we see this in the coming of age film "Easy A" which has mainly a location consisting of school and home. However, our film location is completely different to stereotypical coming of age films, we felt that by changing the location completely to something so different that it would catch attention and people would want to watch it. We challenged our convention by filming on a train track this doesn't shout coming of age film, it leans more towards our sub-genre of sci-fi/ post apocalyptic, we felt that we could achieve the story line that we wanted set in the typical coming of age location so we decide to go for a location that fitted our sub-genre more. In addition, we found that the location really compliments the story line and adds tension as you're not quite sure what is going to happen next.

CONVENTIONS CHALLENGED

We challenged this convention because our typography that we included in out opening sequence for both the main title and the tiles doesn't fit with the typical coming of age font, our font used defiantly has more of a sci-fi / post apocalyptic vibe about it. To look at our font it doesn't so much portray the genre coming of age it portrays the genre sci-fi/ post apocalyptic. The reason we decided to use this font is because we felt the if we used a more delicate font it wouldn't look right with our footage. Another reason being that we just wanted our opening sequence to look right and different to other coming of age films we'd seen and to stand out from the crowd.
